Why Is My Digital Signage Player Showing Offline?
Learn why a digital signage player shows offline in EasySignage even when it has internet, and how to bring it back online.
Why does my player show offline when it has internet?
The two usual causes are a wrong device clock and a network that blocks EasySignage traffic. The player needs the correct date, time, and timezone to complete a secure connection, so a clock that is off by more than a few minutes makes the screen look offline in the dashboard even though the device is browsing fine.
Work through the checks below in order.
How do I fix an offline player?
- Check the device date and time are correct
- Check the device timezone is correct
- If the device gets stuck syncing its timezone, switch to a nearby timezone and test again
- Connect the player to a mobile hotspot to rule out network restrictions
- If the player comes online on the hotspot, your normal network is blocking EasySignage traffic
Set the device to automatic (network) date and time where the option exists. That keeps the clock correct after a power cut or a factory reset.
What if it only comes online on a mobile hotspot?
That result points at your firewall, proxy, or content filter rather than the player. The device needs outbound HTTPS access and working DNS resolution to reach EasySignage.
Does an offline player stop playing content?
No. A player that has already downloaded its playlist keeps playing from local storage while it is offline. It stops receiving new content and new schedules until the connection is restored.
