How to Synchronize Content Across Digital Signage Screens?

Learn how to sync playback across multiple digital signage screens with EasySignage, whether they share one local network or sit in different locations.

Can I synchronize content across multiple screens?

Yes. EasySignage can synchronize playback across multiple screens so they all show the same content at the same time. It works whether your screens share one local network (Wi-Fi or wired) or sit in different locations connected over a 3G/4G internet connection.

How do I sync playback on screens using the same playlist?

Use the Synced Playlist option , which is handy when several screens are visually present in the same area:

  • Open the playlist you want to synchronize.
  • Enable the Synced Playlist option (check the designated box).
  • All screens playing this playlist will now play the same content simultaneously for a seamless viewing experience.

How do I sync different playlists together?

Use a Sync Group when you want separate playlists to stay in sync with each other:

  • Open a playlist and find the Sync Group setting.
  • Click the drop-down and select an existing group, or type a new group name and press Enter to create one.
  • Assign the other playlists to the same group.
  • All playlists in that group play back in the same order at the same time, across every screen using them.

You can sync horizontal or vertical playlists that belong to the same group.

Note: If a playlist has multiple layers, only the last (base) layer is synced. This feature is designed to sync a background layer across multiple screens.

What’s the difference between Local Sync and Internet Sync?

EasySignage offers two synchronization methods, managed under Settings → Screens’ Settings:

Local Sync (enabled by default)

  • Screens use the local network (wired or wireless) to sync playback, including video walls.
  • Players communicate over UDP multicast, so your network must support multicast.
  • Keep Local Sync enabled to use this method.

Internet Sync

  • Screens use the internet to communicate and stay in sync.
  • Use this only when screens are not on the same local network, for example, players in different locations, or connected via a 3G/4G connection.
  • Because screens sync over the internet, they may not be 100% aligned; the delay depends on internet speed but is usually less than 0.3 seconds.
  • To use Internet Sync, disable Local Sync in Screens’ Settings.

Why are my screens out of sync?

If your screens aren’t playing in sync, check the following:

  • Local Sync users: confirm your network supports UDP multicast, and that all screens are on the same network.

  • Different locations: switch to Internet Sync by disabling Local Sync.

  • Matching resolution: every media item across the synced playlists (images and videos) must use the same resolution. Apply a consistent resolution across all screens to guarantee proper synchronized playback.

  • Same sync group: make sure each playlist is assigned to the correct sync group.
