How to Lock a Layer in a Digital Signage Playlist?

Learn how to lock a playlist layer in EasySignage so clients and sub-users can edit the rest of the playlist but not your protected content.

What does locking a layer do?

Locking a layer restricts who can edit that part of a playlist. Only users in the same team as the layer owner can change it. The account holder and anyone in the Administrator team always keep access. Everyone else can see the playlist and work on the other layers, but cannot open or edit the locked one.

Locked layers still play normally. Locking affects editing permissions, not playback.

 

Why would I lock a layer?

This is mainly for resellers and anyone handing a screen over to a client or a department:

  • Keep a logo or watermark permanently visible on a playlist someone else manages
  • Manage part of the screen yourself while a client controls the remaining area
  • Stop sub-users deleting content by accident

 

How do I lock a watermark layer?

Set up the team first, then build the playlist.

  • Create a team, for example Team A, and add the client as sub-users
  • Assign the sub-users to Team A and give the team read-only access to playlists
  • Create a playlist and add a small layer, for example in a bottom corner
  • Upload your logo or watermark to that layer
  • Click Lock on that layer, while signed in as the account holder or a member of the Administrator team
  • Assign the playlist to your screen and click Publish

Team A can now manage the playlist content but cannot touch the locked watermark layer.

 

How do I give a client control over one area only?

Follow the same steps, but size the unlocked layer to match the area you want the client to manage, then lock every other layer. You keep control of the reserved parts of the screen while the client updates their own area.

For screens, give the team read-only access or no screen access at all. That way they manage content without changing screen assignments.
