# How to Switch a Promotion On and Off with an AI Assistant?

Type "promo" in Claude or ChatGPT to show a promotion on your screens alongside normal content, and "normal" to remove it, using EasySignage tags and the MCP server.

## How does one-word promotion switching work?

You tag the promotion media and the screens that should show it with the same tag, `promo`. The promotion media sits inside the playlists your screens already play and stays disabled.

When you type **promo**, the AI assistant enables every media item tagged `promo` and publishes to every screen tagged `promo`. The screens play their normal content with the promotion added. When you type **normal**, it disables the `promo` media and publishes again.

## What do I need before I start?

- An EasySignage Premium or Enterprise plan
- Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini connected to EasySignage, with **Full access** to Media Assets and Screens. See [How to Connect an AI Assistant to EasySignage](https://easysignage.com/how-to/apps/how-to-connect-an-ai-assistant-to-easysignage/)

## How do I set it up?

- Upload the promotion and add it to the playlists your screens play, in the position you want
- Add the tag `promo` to each promotion item and **Disable** it, so screens start in normal mode
- Add the tag `promo` to every screen that should show the promotion
- Publish those screens once
- Paste the [project instructions](https://github.com/easysignage/Digital-Signage-AI-Assistant-MCP/blob/main/project-instructions/PROJECT_INSTRUCTIONS.md) into a Claude or ChatGPT project so the assistant knows what “promo” and “normal” mean

Test on one screen first: tag a single screen `promo`, then type promo and normal and check the result.

## Why does the assistant publish after enabling the media?

Enabling or disabling media changes the plan in your account. Publishing sends that plan to the players. Without a publish, screens keep playing what they had. Screens that are offline pick up the change when they reconnect.

## Why didn’t my screens change?

- The assistant reports 0 items: the media is not tagged exactly `promo`
- The publish reached no screens: the screens are not tagged `promo`
- The screen updated but the promotion does not play: the promotion media is not in the playlist that screen plays
- The assistant reports a permission error: the connection has read-only access to media or screens, so disconnect and connect again with Full access
