# Black Screen When Playing a Video

## Why Is My Screen Black During Video Playback?

If your screen turns black when a video starts, your device may not support the video’s **resolution**, **codec**, or **bitrate**.

Try the following:

1.  Use the built-in **Video Optimize** tool to convert the video to a different format.
2.  Re-encode the video with a more compatible codec and lower bitrate.
3.  Try a lower video resolution and test playback again.

If playback works after optimization, the original video format was not fully supported by the device.
