# Website/URL App

Show a live web page on your screens. Paste the page’s address and the screen loads it like a browser. Websites need an internet connection: they do not play offline.

## How to Add a Website

1. Copy the address of the web page.
2. Open the playlist, then click the layer. See [Playlist Media Management](https://easysignage.com/help/playlists/digital-signage-media/) .
3. If the layer is empty, the content apps open. If it already has media, click **Add New**.
4.  Click **Web**, then **Website**.

5. In **Enter URL**, replace `https://example.com` with the address you copied.
6. Set the options if you need them:
    - **Javascript to execute after the page is loaded.**: optional code to run on the page once it has loaded, up to 1,000 characters.
    - **Refresh rate (minutes)**: tick **Enable** and set how often the screen reloads the page (up to 90 minutes).
    - **Zoom Factor (%)**: tick **Enable** and set the zoom (up to 200%) to fit the page to your screen.
    - **Use proxy**: tick it if the page does not load on your screens. See below.
7.  Click **Save**.
8. Click **Publish changes of this playlist** to send it to your screens.

## My Website Does Not Show on My Screen

### For Non-Technical Users

On **non-Android players**, websites are shown inside an iframe: a window showing one web page inside another.

Some websites do not allow this. You might see an error like this:

> Refused to display \[https://example.com/\] in a frame because it set ‘X-Frame-Options’ to ‘sameorigin’.

This means the website has a security setting that blocks it from being shown inside other apps or screens. It is a common protection against misuse.

#### Your options

- **Use an Android-based screen or player.** Android players do not use iframes.
- **Use the proxy.** In the Website app’s settings, tick **Use proxy**. The page is then loaded through a proxy, which avoids the block. It might not work for all websites.
- **Ask the website owner to change a setting.** If you control the website, or know who does, ask them to allow it to be embedded. See the technical section below.

### For Technical Users

This error:

> Refused to display \[https://example.com/\] in a frame because it set ‘X-Frame-Options’ to ‘sameorigin’.

is caused by a restrictive `X-Frame-Options` HTTP header, which stops the website from being embedded in an **iframe** from another origin.

Digital signage screens embed pages from domains that are often unknown in advance, so allow all domains with the wildcard `*`.

#### To allow any domain to embed your site

-   **Preferred: use a Content-Security-Policy (CSP) header.**

    ```
    Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors *;
    ```

    This modern approach replaces `X-Frame-Options` and is supported by all major browsers.

- **Fallback (not recommended): remove `X-Frame-Options`.** Do not send this header:

    ```
    X-Frame-Options: sameorigin
    ```

`X-Frame-Options: ALLOW-FROM *` is not valid and most browsers do not support it. Use CSP instead.

## Dynamic URL Variables

You can add variables to the website address so that each screen’s details are inserted automatically, such as the player ID, its name, the device manufacturer or custom tags (for example a store ID, zone or region). This is useful for personalised content, analytics and API-based content.

See [Dynamic URL Variables](https://easysignage.com/help/apps/digital-signage-website-dynamic-url-variables/) for how to use them and the full list.
